What is CNPA? It stands for Carolina Nature Photography Association. When you search for their site, the Welcome Page will tell you they are “committed to serving the needs of nature photographers in the Carolinas and throughout the United States. It’s been in existence since 1992 when a small group of photographers recognized the potential benefits of forming a group dedicated to nature photography. From that meager beginning they has grown to become one of the largest “photo clubs” of its kind in the country. Currently, with 1379 members organized into 12 regional groups, they  offer many opportunities for its members to join together each month.”

That’s some growth…. When the North American Nature Photography Association, NANPA, was formed, they used CNPA charter format as a model for their own.

About the organization…

Today, not only do they provide a super annual get together, they attract some of the foremost Leaders and Educators as speakers. They also provide an excellent quarterly newsletter “Camera in The Wild” with both physical and online versions.

Many of the “amateur” members are actually “closet Pros”, and lead the regional activities. A single membership give one access to every one of the twelve regions in the two states – which offer workshops and meetings of their own. It’s like having a traveling VIP pass to exciting events, no mater where one happens to go.

As a member, one can also post on the Members Gallery, and if you teach or lead workshops, you may post the events on line. We can think of no finer organization to suggest a membership in. Go to http://cnpa.org/ for full details.
