The First Annual Winter Fest of Western North Carolina, USA, being planned as I type. This event will introduce Mushing – the running of dogs behind sleds to the area.
But, what if there’s no snow? They run the sleds with wheels!! This years event will help to raise funds for a much needed new Animal Shelter for Haywood County.

- February 27 will be Tips on Winter Photography with Don McGowan. To be held at the Waynesville Old Armory 44 Boundary Street, fee is $40 for the morning program with 20% discount for early registration at bobgry@aol.com
- February 28 will be a Morning Photo Shoot in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and surrounding areas. There will be no wheels on the camera; however – only tripods and long johns. Fee is $85 with 20% discount for early registration at bobgry@aol.com
- And to cap everything off there will be a Photography Contest with winning awards of cash and photo gear by Think Tank Photo Bags and Mind Set.

The magic of Appalachian Winters …

Mountain Roads offer great opportunities for photography. After the snow, the sun comes out in these mountains which peak at 6200 feet. It’s actually very comfortable given the possible snow levels. Rime Frost can blanket the tree limbs…
and rivers reflect all the beauty of nature at her best.
All the waterways in Haywood county run out of the County, making this area an important watershed.
This also provides the waterfalls with a beauty all their own …

Nearby Transylvania County boasts the most waterfalls – at 200 plus, while Mingo falls and Soco falls close by are scheduled for the Guides Photo Shoot on Saturday February 28.
